A total of 10 local athletes not only excelled athletically but academically as they were named to Utah High School Activities Association Deseret News Academic All-State teams recently.
Four were named from Carbon, five from Emery and one from Green River.
Half of the ten came from track and field. Carbon’s Dalton Latimer Gabe Van Dyke and Lexi Monson were on the 3A team with a combined 3.999 GPA. Spartan runners Camrey Johnson and Travis Fehlberg found themselves on the 2A teams, combining for a 3.993 GPA.
Emery also had two players named to the 2A soccer team. Abram Hadfield and Ethan Shorthill combined for a 3.987 GPA.
Andrew Richens with Carbon tennis was the lone Dino on the 3A team with a 3.994 GPA.
Emery’s Jessica Mason was the only softball player from either Carbon or Emery who was named academic all state. She, along with nine others combined for a 3.998 GPA.
Green River Pirate golfer Karson Nelson rounded out the list, finishing among nine with a 3.893 combined GPA.
