A total of 20 Emery High students were inducted Thursday into the National Honor Society at the school’s annual induction ceremony.

In order to be inducted into the National Honor Society, students have to maintain rigorous standards in not just academics but also service in their community and county. The inductees will be involved in various activities throughout the summer including having a place on a Relay For Life team.

The program included a musical number and a humorous reading. Jessica and Laryssa Guymon and Melece Pulli sang “Danny Boy,” and Adrienne Carter performed the reading.

Those in attendance then listened to school counselor Dixie Fielder as she spoke about how the students were the “cream of the crop.”

The officers for 2011-12 lit four candles. One for scholarship, service, leadership, and character. The inductees then took an oath to uphold the standards of the National Honor Society program.

“This year’s group of kids will be really good for the program,” said National Honor Society adviser Wendy Whittle.
