A New Business to Bring More Jobs?

The council chambers were full Wednesday evening for the regularly scheduled Price City council meeting. During the public comment period, hopeful entrepreneurs took to the podium to present a new business in Price.

Joel McKay Smith was the first to speak from Accelerant Business Solutions Provider about bringing the business to the Carbon County area in the near future. Based out of Lehi, Utah, the focus of the company is to help create jobs and expand the interests of people in the community. McKay stated that if the business were brought to the Castle Country area, it could potentially create upwards of 2,000 jobs.

ABSP is currently in the process of purchasing the old JcPenney building located at 78 East Main Street. It is an ideal spot for the business, as they hope to create more foot traffic along Price’s Main Street and a widely diverse environment.

Smith is the co-founder alongside Nicolena Wallmack, who was also present at the meeting. She spoke after Smith about a possible grant approval to create a training space for individuals. Wallmack proposed a $1.2 million grant to the council in order to create the training space.

Wallmack also gave council members an idea of what to expect from the business, as she has a goal which she calls Earn and Learn, Work and Learn. Employees can learn more about the field while still making a living, and continue to do so after the completed course.

As this topic was brought to the council’s attention during public comment, the council was unable to  approve the hopeful business at this time.
