Number of Lady Spartans Heading to State Following Region Tennis in Manti

Region tennis, hosted in Manti on Sept. 21, found many of the Emery Lady Spartans ending the game with scores good enough to send them to the state competition.

First doubles, played by Jordynn Wolford and Jessie Nicholson, began when they faced off against Grand and finished 0-6, 4-6. Against San Juan, the duo ended with 6-3, 6-3 and finished by facing off against South Sevier, 7-5, 6-2, 6-3. Wolford and Nicholson took fifth place and will be heading to state.

Raegan Sitterud and Rayna Paskett teamed up for second doubles against North Sanpete and Grand, ending with 4-6, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-4, 6-2, respectively. This duo also placed in fifth and will be competing at state. First singles, played by Hannah Morris, began against San Juan, 2-6, 1-6, continued against South Sevier, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 and ended with a face-off against Richfield, 1-6, 2-6. Morris ended in sixth place.

Madison McCandless played second singles against Grand, Millard and South Sevier. McCandless’ scores were 3-6, 6-1, 4-6 against Grand, 6-0, 6-1 against Millard and 6-2, 5-, 6-4 against South Sevier. McCandless finished in fifth place and will accompany her teammates to state.

The matches finished with Morgan Hughes playing third singles. Facing off with Grand, Hughes scored 0-6, 0-6. Next up, she finished 6-3, 6-0 against San Juan and finished with 3-6, 2-6 against South Sevier, landing her in the seventh place slot.

State tennis is slated to take place at Liberty Park on Sept. 28 and 29.
