Alleged Guilty Party in Loretta Jones Case Appears in Local Court for First Proceedings

After being booked into the Carbon County Jail Thursday Aug. 25, 76-year old Thomas Edward Egley appeared in the 7th District Court before Judge George Harmond in his first appearance after allegedly confessing to the homicide and rape of 23-year old Loretta M. Jones 46 years ago in late July.

Present were Carbon County and state officials as well as others invested in the case.

Appearing on video broadcast from the county’s jail, Egley was assigned David Allred as a representative in court. A date of Sept. 6 was also set for Egley to return where they will review his and Allred’s status as well as set a date for the preliminary hearing.
