Members of the community gathered for a night of excitement at the annual Carbon County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Demolition Derby on Saturday at the Carbon County Fairgrounds.

Starting at 4 p.m., spectators were able to enter the gates to begin festivities. Just after 6 p.m., cars entered the arena for the first event of the evening. The night continued with plenty of smashing and crashing in a truck derby as well as a 80s and newer class, which was new this year.

Those in attendance received a treat when Price City Mayor Joe Piccolo presided over a marriage ceremony between events. Brandon Stevenson and Tyra Larsen exchanged vows and rings in front of the entire audience at the derby. The couple had been engaged since July 2013.

Funds raised at the event will go to the Carbon County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue. The annual derby provides the majority of the funds for the county’s search and rescue team.
