Both the prosecution and defense in Seventh District Court on Tuesday decided they needed more time to discuss the details of suspect Monty Emmons’s involvement in the В kidnapping and robbery of a Helper resident in December.
On December 2, around 1:00p.m., Helper City officers were dispatched to a kidnapping and robbery call.
Officers determined later that an adult male subject had been kidnapped from his home in Helper, and driven to a remote location in Carbon County. Helper Police Chief, Trent Anderson, reported the В victim had been tied up and forced to give over his possessions. The suspects then allegedly stole money from his bank account and his vehicle from his residence. The victim was forced to walk several miles through rough terrain and through the dark to find help.
Through police work between the Carbon County Sheriff’s Department, Price City Police, Sandy City Police, Moapa Tribal Police (Nevada), and Helper City Police, three suspects were taken into custody just days after the crime had occurred. The suspects are Hannah Downard 04/21/1991, Monty Charles Emmons 06/07/1988, and Justin Marrs 06/06/1990.
All three suspects face charges for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, theft, possession of a dangerous weapon, and unlawful use of a credit card.
With Emmons scheduled for arraingment, Downard scheduled for a preliminary hearing, and Marrs scheduled for an initial appearance, all three cases are in different stages and both the prosecution and defense requested more time.
“All three cases are on different tracks, and I believe I will need a few weeks to review more information,” requested prosecuting attroney Gene Strait as he addressed Judge George Harmond.
“I think it would be most beneficial for the defendant if we ask for a continuance,” said Attroney David Allred representing Monty Emmons.
Judge Harmond granted the continuance request and ordered Emmons to appear in court again on February 4, 2013 at 12:15p.m.
Hannah Downard is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on February 1, 2013 at 2p.m.
