The pancake supper on Shrove Tuesday has become a strong tradition for the members of the Ascension St. Matthew’s church and all those that have attended annually.

This year, much of the community was in attendance to enjoy the flapjacks and do their part to give back to the community. The food was served from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and was mostly received on a donation basis. According to Pastor Jim Locke and church member Barb Warren, the event has taken place for over 30 years.

Shrove Tuesday is a part of the beginning of Lent and always takes place the day before Ash Wednesday. Ascension St. Matthew’s gives a donation monthly to one of the local organizations. This dinner is a way to raise funds to be able to give back to the community as a whole. The Lutheran Church also matches what is made.

“It’s a way to be a part of the community,” Pastor Locke said.
