Looking to keep pace with Gunnison and Grand atop the 2A East standings, the Emery Spartans were handed a 9-2 loss at San Juan Tuesday afternoon.

Emery gave up a season-high 16 hits in the game, with Tel Gardner taking the loss after giving up 13 of those hits, which led to six earned runs. Koda Alton pitched the final inning, giving up two earned on three hits.

Colton Willson led the Spartans offensively, notching two singles and an RBI in three at bats. Logan Labrum went 1-3 with a single and an RBI. Easton Gordon had the only extra-base hit for Emery with a double. The Spartans stranded 13 runners on base.

Emery (9-4, 3-2 2A East) will have a quick turnaround, hosting San Juan on Wednesday for both teams’ final head-to-head regular season matchup of the season.
