Local Teams Return from Cal Ripken Regional Tournaments *Update*

The 2017 Pacific Southwest Regional Cal Ripken baseball tournaments began July 17 with pool play. Carbon had three teams advance to the regionals, with 9U, 10U and 11U clinching spots after winning their respective state tournaments in Price a couple of weeks back.

9U

The 9U Carbon team began its hopeful title run last Monday in West Valley City. Monday’s matchup against Northern California #1 ended in a 13-0 loss. Looking to rebound on Tuesday, Central California #2 handed Carbon another loss, this time by a 10-2 score. After a bye on Wednesday, Carbon was upended 12-8 by Utah North NL on Thursday, ending its run in the regional tournament. Carbon was 0-3 in pool play.

10U

Playing in Visalia, Calif., the Carbon 10U squad kicked off its regional tournament against Arizona on July 17, a game it narrowly lost, 6-3. The team also played Tuesday and Wednesday, losing both games 11-1 to Central California #2 and 16-3 to Northern California. Sitting at 0-3, After a bye on Thursday, Carbon wrapped up its tournament on Friday with a 12-1 loss to host Visalia. Carbon was 0-4 in pool play.

11U

212 miles south of Visalia, the Carbon 11U team was in Long Beach for the 11U tourney. Carbon beat Northern Utah NL 10-0 on Monday to kick off pool play. Central California handed Carbon its first defeat of the tournament on Tuesday, 9-3. Carbon rebounded on Wednesday with a 12-10 victory over Northern California #1. After Thursday’s bye, Carbon took on host Long Beach with a shot to make the single elimination tournament on Saturday, but was turned away with an 11-6 loss, ending its pool play record at 2-2.
