The Positive Action Program is a program in which Carbon Emery Telcom donates $100 to local schools that apply in order for the school to award its students for their positivity in both school and life.

Canyon View Junior High, located in Huntington, is one of many schools that participate in the Positive Action Program. At Canyon View, when a teacher notices that a student has scored well on a test or a student is seen doing something for another person they are given a ticket. The tickets are awarded when the student is doing something positive in their life; it does not matter if the action is academically based.

There is then a raffle that takes place every Friday. The students turn in their tickets and 16 tickets are then chosen. The students that win are awarded with a drink, snack or with something similar.

Also, at the end of each term, students qualify for the Top Cat award by being on the honor roll, having no tardies or not being absent during the term. Each term the students are awarded in a different way. They are treated to either bowling, swimming or a movie day with popcorn and snow cones.

At the end of the year, any of the money that is left over from the program is used to buy soda, candy bars, movies and more that is given away in drawings that are done throughout the day while the students sign one another’s yearbooks.
