Carbon and Emery Go Third and Fifth at Red Rocks Invitational

Carbon, Emery and Pinnacle high schools participated in the Red Rocks Invitational track meet in Moab on Saturday, hosted by Grand County High School.

The Dinos finished in third place overall, the girls’ team in third and the boys’ team in fifth while the Spartan boys’ team claimed fourth and girls’ fifth, for an overall fifth place showing. Pinnacle took 13th out of 16 teams at the meet.

Jordyn Oman and Sarah Ohlwiler finished first and second in the 100 meters. Oman nipped Ohlwiler by just .01 second, 13.43 to 13.44. Oman also finished in first place in the 200 meters with a time of 28.08 that was over a second faster than the second place finisher, Emery’s Morgan Hurdsman, with a time of 29.35. Carbon’s only other first place finish came from the boys’ sprint medley team of Antonio Mecham, Derik Riley, Drew Jones and Carter Fausett.

Emery nabbed five first place finishes, two each by Paytn Jeffs and Tyler Olsen. Jeffs finished first in the long jump with a 15-03.25 leap and first in the high jump, jumping 5-02.00. Olsen took home top honors in the high jump (6-02.00) and long jump (19-09-.25). Erin Hurst finished nearly 11 seconds ahead of second place in the 3200 meters (12:16.82)

Pinnacle’s top finish from Saturday was a fifth place showing in the boys’ sprint medley (4:36.02) that consisted of Tanner Hansen, Remington Motte, Jeremy Roberts and Huntter Sherman.

Carbon: Girls’ 4×100, fourth. Girls’ 4×400, second. Ohlwiler, second in 100-meter hurdles, third in high jump. Morgan Hillam, fourth in javelin. Lindsey Blanc, third in 400 meters, second in javelin. Oman, fifth in 400 meters. Makara Morgan, fourth in 800 meters. Addy Olson, fifth in 800 meters. Boys’ 4×100, second. Boys’ 4×400, third. Gabe VanDyke, second in 300-meter hurdles, fourth in high jump. Peyton Fausett, second in shot put. Derek Hillam, fifth in 100 meters, fourth in 200 meters.

Emery: Chase Christiansen, fifth in 3200 meters. Logan Cox, third in 100 meters, second in 400 meters, second in 200 meters. Chase Jewkes, fifth in shot put, fourth in javelin. Kolton Butler, third in discus, fifth in javelin.

Carbon and Emery will next participate in the Matt Burr Invitational on April 2 in Salina. Pinnacle will have some time off before competing in the Temple View Qualifier in Manti on April 8.
