Carbon County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Arrest Wanted FBI Fugitive

Carbon County Sheriff’s Office Press Release

On Thursday, the FBI sent information to Carbon County law enforcement partners advising that a fugitive was believed to be residing in the Wellington City area. The suspect was identified as one Sam Gene Harris, 61. The FBI bulletin indicated Harris has been a fugitive from the Mississippi Department of Corrections since 11/27/80, just over 34 years. Harris has built an extensive criminal history throughout the country and uses a number of aliases. Most of his previous crimes are theft related.

Harris has currently obtained a Utah driver license under the name of Wayne Edward Stevens. He has lived in Wellington for several years now and has even had law enforcement contact under the alias name of Stevens.

Price City Det. Chris Pugliese developed current information on Harris and shared the information with investigators from the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office and Wellington police. Carbon County Sheriff’s Office detectives Roger Taylor and Rory Bradley made contact with Harris and arrested him without incident on Thursday.

Additional information has been developed and a criminal investigation is ongoing. Capt. Chad Feichko from the Wellington Police Department is spearheading the ongoing investigation with assistance from investigators from the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office and Price City Police Department.
