It has been another busy week at the sheriff’s office. Marcus Bott has resigned from his position as a Deputy Sheriff and we wish him the best of luck in his future.

The sheriff’s office takes great pride in having honest employees that are dedicated to serving the good citizens of Carbon County. They display the highest level of integrity and are accountable for their actions. We are proud of our current employees and look forward to good things in the future for Carbon County.

The detective division at the sheriff’s office continues to work on cold cases and progress is being made on these cases. Detective Hendricks and his cadaver dog team were deployed this week in the Clear Creek area on a cold case investigation involving a name carved in a tree that was suspicious. This incident is still under investigation with no other details available at this time.

Over the past month, our jail population has ranged from 50-75 inmates and is currently at 57.

The sheriff’s office has applied for a grant to obtain body cameras and is awaiting the results of that application. We are hopeful that we obtain the grant to provide these cameras to all of our deputies to assist them in their day to day duties.

I wanted to mention that the local law enforcement team is working well and I am proud to be a part of this team. We look forward to another wonderful week of summer in Carbon County. As we enjoy our summer, keep in mind that we need to be ever diligent not to be easy victims of theft related crimes. While on vacation, be cautious of posting pictures on the internet alerting people that you are out of town and be sure to have your mail and newspapers gathered while you are away. Also, keep in mind that local law enforcement will conduct extra patrols on your property at your request if you are going to be gone for an extended period of time. Keep your garage door closed, especially when you are not at home and have the exterior of your home well lit. Make sure your house number is easily visible from the street and report any suspicious activity to your local law enforcement.
