The Carbon High Dinos baseball team kicked off the state 3A tournament on Saturday by competing in two games at Grantsville High.

Carbon came out strong in the first game by defeating Canyon View 2-0. According to Dinos head coach Brett Bennett, the team displayed exceptional hitting and pitching skills during the opening game. “Cole Fossat pitched well,” he said. “He had a shut out and we had some big hits which lead to the win.”

The Dinos moved on to the next round where they faced host team, Granstsville. Momentum changed for Carbon as they lost 6-1.

Because the 3A state championship is a double elimination tournament, the Dinos are still in the running for the title. The team will face Uintah on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Spanish Fork in the next round of play. Coach Bennett is optimistic about the upcoming game. “I feel good about it,” he explained. “If we continue hitting strong and our pitching is good, then we will advance in the state competition.”
