For the second time in a week, the Dino baseball team chalked up a victory over a 4A opponent. On Friday afternoon Carbon took down East 6-5, taking eight innings to get the job done.

Dakota Cisneros was on the hill for the Dinos and got off to a rocky start. East put up a four spot before they finished the first frame. Cisneros settled down and stayed in the game until the seventh.

East opened up the top of the third with a ringing triple, but left the runner stranded. They did tack on a run in the fourth, But Carbon came roaring back to tie it in the bottom of the frame. It stayed knotted up at 5 runs, six hits and four errors for both teams for the next two innings. Derek Young took the mound to close the game.

The Dinos moved a runner as far as third in the seventh, but could not push them across. But in the eight they opened up with a walk and then an intentional walk. With runners at 1st and second, Kayden Fiechko lace a double down the middle and the game was in the bag.

“There were a lot of errors and a few misplayed balls. The wind threw a curve on things, but fortunately the other team was making as many errors,” said Coach Troy Moynier after the game. “But I reminded the boys, a win is a win. I was really impressed with Derek Young and his pitching. He had a very impressive seventh and I thought we would get the run and win. But he came back out and threw an equally strong eight and gave us the chance to get the win.”

The Dinos are now 7-5 and 0-2 in region action. They resume region play with a pair of game against Delta next week. They are at Delta on Tuesday and have a home game with the Rabbits on Thursday at the Carbon Field at 3:30.
