Carbon High Continues to Swim Past the Competition

The Carbon Dino swim team traveled to Vernal Friday to compete in the Uintah Invitational. The team took second overall out of the four teams. The girl’s team finished second while the boy’s team finished fourth.

“Overall, it was a great meet,” said head coach Kamra Davis. “We had 47 best times.”

In the girls 200 medley relay, the team composed of Addy Olson, Sadie Crompton, Veronica Ibanez and Susannah Ohlwiler finished second place with a time of 2:11.27. In the boys 200 medley relay, the team composed of Tyson Swasey, Joseph Keller, Ryan Atwood and Kaden Earl took fifth place with a time of 2:02.95.

In the girls 200 freestyle, Crompton took sixth place with a time of 2:38.06, with Ohlwiler just behind in seventh with a time of 2:41.70. In the boys 200 freestyle, Keller clinched a first place finish with a time of 2:02.40.

In the girls 200 individual medley, Olson took earned third place with a finish of 2:45.94. In the girls 50 freestyle, Suparada Chaobol took first place in 28.85. Kaisha Lott took third place in 29.71. In the boys 50 freestyle, Earl took third place in 25.73 while Swasey finished just behind in 26.02.

In the girls 100 butterfly, Ibanez finished second in 1:11.51. Heidi Prettyman finished sixth in 1:27.97 and Taycie Davis finished tenth in 1:48.98. In the boys 100 butterfly, Atwood finished eighth in 1:20.27.

In the girls 100 freestyle, Ohlwiler finished second in 1:07.63. Stine Eikeland finished fourth in 1:11.72. In the boys 100 freestyle, Keller finished first in 53.51 and Earl finished fourth in 57.37.

In the girls 500 freestyle, Ibanez finished in 6:14.38, earning a first place title. Chaobol finished fourth in 6:53.96. In the boys 500 freestyle, Swasey finished third with a time of 6:12.03.

The girls 200 freestyle relay saw a first place finish from the team composed of Crompton, Olson, Lott and Chaobol. Their time was 1:56.30. The boys 200 freestyle relay took third place with a time of 1:43.55. The team was composed of Keller, Atwood, Swasey and Earl.

In the girls 100 backstroke, Andie Hofer took fifth place with her time of 1:29.81. In the girls 100 breaststroke, Crompton earned a first place in 1:17.68, Olson earned a third place in 1:27.19 and Prettyman earned fifth in 1:28.93. In the boys 100 breaststroke, Gabe Van Dyke took seventh in 1:22.18, Kyson Anderson took eighth in 1:24.62 and Logan Engar took twelfth in 1:28.35.

In the final event of the night, the 400 freestyle relay, the girls relay team of Chaobol, Ohlwiler, Prettyman and Ibanez finished second in 4:27.81. The boys relay team finished fifth in 4:35.79. The team was composed of Robby Jewkes, Will Laursen, Harrison Torgerson and Jax Kraync.

The team also competed at Delta on December 2. Overall, the Dinos came out on top of seven teams with a combined score of 428. The girls team finished first with a score of 227, while the boys team fell to Emery by one point with a score of 201. The Delta pool is a meter pool, rather than yards, so times are generally a little bit slower than they are in a yard pool.

In the girls 200 medley relay, the team composed of Olson, Crompton, Ibanez and Chaobol took first place with a time of 2:27.38. The boys 200 medley relay team composed of Torgerson, Connor Holyoak, Van Dyke and Kraync took fifth place with a time of 2:41.

In the 200 freestyle, Chaobol took second in 2:47.51. Keller took first in the boys 200 freestyle with a time of 2:18.58. In the 200 individual medley, Ibanez took second with a time of 2:58.31 while Olson took fourth with a time of 3:09.02. In the boys 200 individual medley, Swasey took second with a time of 2:51.26.

In the girls 50 freestyle, Crompton took second with a time of 33.26 while Prettyman took fourth in 35.12. In the boys 50 freestyle, Earl came in second with a time of 28.50 while Atwood came in fourth in 31.28 and Kraync finished sixth in 32.58.

In the girls 100 butterfly, Prettyman finished second in 1:40.75. Abby Layton finished third in 1:55.63. In the boys 100 butterfly, Atwood finished fourth in 1:29.93 while Earl finished seventh in 1:35.38.

In the 400 freestyle, Ibanez finished first in 5:27.38. Will Laursen finished third in the boys 400 freestyle in 6:22.90 while Kraync finished fifth in 6:54.18.

In the 200 freestyle relay, the Carbon girls team took first place in 2:24.65. The team was composed of Prettyman, Kaylee Johnson, Shannon Baker and Crompton. The boys team composed of Keller, Atwood, Swasey and Earl also finished first with a time of 1:57.01.

In the 100 backstroke, Olson finished second in 1:26.20, Hofer finished seventh in 1:43.41 and Layton finished elventh in 1:47.87. In the boys 100 backstroke, Swasey finished second in 1:19.25 with Torgerson in seventh with a time of 1:37.06.

In the 100 breaststroke, Crompton finished third in 1:29.08, Paula Ehbrecht finished seventh in 1:57.49 and Samira Sieverdingbeck finished tenth in 2:07.98. In the boys 100 breaststroke, Van Dyke finished seventh in 1:33.85, Anderson finished ninth in 1:35.11 and Holyoak finished tenth in 1:35.60.

In the girls 400 freestyle relay, the Carbon girls and boys each clenched first place titles again. The girls team composed of Chaobol, Prettyman, Olson and Ibanez finished in 5:06.42. The boys team composed of Swasey, Earl, Atwood and Keller finished in 4:08.91.

The team will next compete against Emery on Wednesday. The meet is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Emery Aquatic Center.
