Carbon High Swim Team Hosts Last Meet Before Region Competition

The Carbon High swim team hosted its last meet of the season before region on Jan. 18 against Uintah, Payson, Wasatch Academy and North Sanpete. The Carbon girls suffered a narrow loss to Uintah, losing 88-72 while the Carbon boys fell 112-47.

“I thought our team swam well,” said head coach Kamra Davis. “ I’m hoping that with our taper workouts and rest the swimmers will perform their best at region Thursday.”

The meet began on a high note as the Carbon girls secured a first place finish in the medley relay, finishing in 2:11.12. The team consisted of Addy Olson swimming backstroke, Sadie Crompton swimming breaststroke, Veronica Ibanez swimming butterfly and Suparada Chaobol rounding out the relay with freestyle.

The Carbon boys took second place in the medley relay, finishing in 2:00.82. The relay team was composed of Joseph Keller, Tyson Swasey, Kaden Earl and Connor Holyoak.

The 200 freestyle saw a third place finish for the Carbon girls as Chaobol finished in 2:29.37. In the boys event, Keller swam in just 2:06.67 to earn Carbon a first place finish.

In the girls 200 individual medley, Olson finished in 2:44.89 to earn the Carbon girls a second place finish.
In the girls 50 freestyle, first and second place went to Carbon as Kaisha Lott and Chaobol finished in 29.19 and 29.30, respectively. In the boys event, Earl took first with a finish in 25.13.

The girls 100 freestyle was dominated by Ibanez, who finished first in 1:13.67. In the boys event, Robby Jewkes finished third in 1:22.20 with Ryan Atwood just behind in fourth in 1:22.57.

In the 100 freestyle, Crompton pulled out a time of 1:06.76, finishing in second place. Teammates Susannah Ohlwiler and Heidi Prettyman finished fourth and fifth in 1:07.20 and 1:08.16, respectively. In the boys 100 freestyle, Keller finished in 54.65 to secure a first place finish while Swasey finished third in 56.02 and Earl finished fifth in 56.91.

The 500 freestyle saw another first place finish for Ibanez who finished in 6:15.87. Lott finished fourth in 7:37.05. In the boys 500 freestyle, Will Laursen swam in 6:54.49 to earn a third place finish for the Carbon boys. Throughout the season, Laursen has dropped 18 seconds in the event.

In the 200 freestyle relay, the Carbon girls took first in 1:56.57 with the team composed of Crompton, Lott, Ohlwiler and Chaobol. The Carbon boys finished second in the event with a time of 1:42.75. The boys team consisted of Earl, Swasey, Holyoak and Keller.

In the girls 100 backstroke, Olson finished second in 1:16.99 and Ohlwiler finished fifth in 1:30.79. In the girls 100 breaststroke, Crompton took second place in 1:20.13. Prettyman finished third in 1:25.90, crushing her previous personal best. In the boys 100 breaststroke, Swasey finished fourth in 1:16.82.

The Carbon girls 400 freestyle relay team took second place finishing in 4:29.76. The team was composed of Ohlwiler, Olson, Prettyman and Ibanez. The Carbon boys 400 freestyle relay team also earned second in the event, finishing in 4:30.85. The team was composed of Jewkes, Jax Kraync, Harry Torgerson and Laursen. The Carbon boys B relay finished third in 5:03.54 with the team consisting of Jamin Jensen, Oscar Jeppson, Bert McCourt and Dalton Latimer.

Carbon’s next meet will be the region championships that they will host on Thursday, Jan. 29. The Carbon girls currently sit at the top in region while the boys are ranked second.
