Carbon Loses Home Opener to Emery *Photo Gallery*

After dropping the first set to a strong opener from the Lady Dinos, the Emery volleyball team took control of their season-opening match at Carbon to pull out a 16-25, 26-24, 25-23, 13-25, 15-11 road victory Tuesday evening.

Both teams came out fresh and looked ready to start the season and split the first four sets. In the fifth and deciding round, the Lady Spartans battled hard and capitalized on the Dino’s mistakes, tipping the momentum in their direction.

The Lady Spartans offense was led by outstanding performances from three seniors. Bailey Rasmussen led Emery’s offense with 10 kills, followed by teammates Cassidy Labrum with nine kills and Ashton Bell with seven. Senior setter Emily Olsen finished the night with a high of 25 assists for the Spartans.

The Lady Dinos were led by junior Jordan Scoggins with 11 kills followed by senior outside hitter Beth Child with five. Senior setter Lauren Rice ran the Carbon offense and finished with 21 assists. Senior libero Katee Martinez racked up an impressive 18 digs on the night.

Emery will be on the home court on Sept. 9 to take on Great Oak High School from Temecula, Cali. at 6 p.m.

The Lady Dinos will remain at home this Thursday and take on Bear River High School at 6:30 p.m.
