It was a busy weekend for area track teams with Carbon participating in the Uintah Invitational and Emery, Green River and Pinnacle in Manti for the Temple View Qualifier.
The Dinos placed second out of six teams. Emery finished in eighth out of 19 total teams, Green River 10th and Pinnacle finished in 17th.
Carbon’s Sarah Ohlwiler again paced her team, earning 46 total points out of 357.5 team points. She placed first in both the 100 and 300-meter hurdles and two second place finishes in the 100 meters and long jump, respectively.
Zaharah Rossi finished first in the 3200 meters. The boy’s 4×100 team of Cache Barrett, Braxton Jones, Dallin Quinton and Gabe Vandyke sprinted to a first place showing. The girl’s sprint medley team of Madelyn Christensen, Ambrie Reed, Rossi and Emily Broadbear placed first. Taylor Oliver and Jordan Scoggins went first and second in the javelin. German exchange student Stine Eidkeland placed first in the discus.
“We dominated,” head coach Jimmy Jewkes said. “We (the girls) have never scored over 200 in any meet and to take only 15 boys and score the way we did was great.”
Carbon girls finished with 238 points and the boys with 119.5.
Emery had three first place finishers in Manti. Sprinter Ashlynn Allred took first in the 100 meters. She also finished second in the 400. Erin Hurst finished nearly 25 seconds in front of second place in the 3200 meters. Laryssa Guymon was the other first place finisher, throwing the discus just over 89 feet.
Green River’s Joe Serafin carried the Pirate team with a first and a third place finish. He took home the long jump title and third in the 100 meters. He also tied for seventh in the 200. Tyrell Shumway ran away with the javelin title, throwing just under 10 feet further than the closest hurler. Kyle Johnson finished third in the long jump just behind Serafin.
The Pinnacle boy’s sprint medley team took home a third place finish, earning six points. The girls sprint medley team placed sixth. Hunter Sherman rounded out the scoring with a seventh place finish in the 110-meter hurdles.
All four teams will participate in the Darrell Gardner Invitational on Tuesday at Emery High School in Castle Dale at 4 p.m.
