The Carbon Dinos advanced steadily in the state playoffs, notching two wins on Saturday against Park City and Grantsville.

“We actually had to move them to Helper and the college field because of weather,” head coach Jeff Cisneros commented about the game. “It was a long day Saturday as we traveled up to Salt Lake City at 6 a.m. and sat for four hours before making the trip back home to play the games.”

First up for Carbon was the matchup against Grantsville, the third seed from Region 11. Dino Kaiden Lewis led the team to the 5-1 win with a single and a double as well as two RBIs in the game.

Both teams started slow until Carbon brought a runner home in the bottom of the third. Four more runs in the fifth buried Grantsville as the team was unable to make up the deficit in the following innings. Cole Fossat got the win on the mound.

Going into the next round, Carbon faced Region 11 Park City. The Dinos knocked the first seed team into the one-loss bracket after taking the 5-4 win. Both teams opened the game with a run apiece in the first inning. After notching three more runs by the sixth inning, Park City had set Carbon back 4-1. The Dinos answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead, 5-4, and win the game.

Jarod Lessar was credited with the win on the mound. Junior Mitch Olsen was also impressive for the Dinos, bashing two doubles and four RBIs. Fossat finished with a double and a triple in the matchup.

With the wins, Carbon will advance to take on Pine View on Thursday. The game is slated for 11 a.m. at Dixie State in St. George.
