Ralph Keele started doing metal art almost 10 years ago out of his home workshop. Now, Metal Works has expanded to a shop in Price that provides powder coating for Love-Less Ash, custom made signs, fabrication, plate rolling and more.

Metal Works opened its doors by making metal art and custom made signs. Custom lettering can be added to almost any item that Keele creates and pieces can be powdered to the color of the customer’s choice or left unpainted.

Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a “skin.” It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. Powder coating is mainly used for the coating of metals, such as household appliances, aluminium extrusions drum hardware and automobile and bicycle parts.

“We are here locally to do powder coating,” Keele explained. The advantage of Metal Works’ location in Price is what piqued Love-Less Ash’s interest in the company. Before employing Metal Works to do their powder coating, Love-Less Ash had to employ the services of companies in northern Utah.

Keele continues to do powder coating for customers in the area as well as custom pieces. He has made coffee tables, metal flowers and even a dinosaur. Keele takes time, sometimes hours or days, to make each piece unique and detailed.

Keele can be contacted at (435) 820-9619 and can give quotes on customer’s projects. Metal Works is located at 600 South Nick Lane (the old Love-Less Ash building) in Price.
