Linda Garvin was honored as part of the Apples for Teachers program at the Carbon School Board meeting on Wednesday evening. Garvin currently teaches at Castle Heights Elementary.

KUSA personalities Frank Ori and Amanda Paiz honored Garvin at the meeting and praised her dedication to education in Carbon County.

“That was the wrap up for our fifth year,” Paiz explained about the Apples for Teachers program. “Every month, a teacher that has been nominated by a fellow colleague or student for their excellence in education is recognized at the school district meeting. The teacher is given a plaque and the nominating student is given a carmel apple from Cold Stone Creamery and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.”

In August each year, one teacher is then chosen as the teacher of the year for the program. The teacher receives recognition at the school board meeting and and Apple iPad.

“We are beginning the sixth year now and are finally expanding to cover both Carbon and Emery counties with a teacher spotlighted from each county every month,” Paiz explained.

Representatives from the Apples for Teachers program would like the thank the following sponsors: A Johnson Heating, SEUEPA, Cold Stone Creamery, Banasky Insurance, Main Street Grill, Paws N Claws, Pierce Oil/Swift Stop N’ Shop, Price Insurance, Renegade Industrial, Rocky Mountain Power and Aaron’s Sales and Lease, who donated the iPad.
