Needing a victory to keep pace with other Region 12 leaders, the Carbon Dinos were upended Friday night by the visiting North Sanpete Hawks, 61-46.

The Dinos beat the Hawks 62-50 back on Jan. 11 in Mt. Pleasant. With the loss, Carbon is tied with North Sanpete at 2-3 in the Region 12 standings.

A back-and-forth first quarter saw North Sanpete take a 16-10 lead into the second. The Dinos went on a 7-0 run to tie the game up at 19 in the second quarter at the 4:38 mark after one of two free throws by Kyle Quinton. Quinton led all scorers in the first half with 15 points. Despite his efforts, the Hawks took the 31-25 halftime lead.

North Sanpete opened the second half on a 10-3 run to take a commanding 41-28 lead at the 3:23 mark. A bucket by Jamin Jensen with under a minute to play in the period got the Dinos as close as they would get the rest of the game at 42-33. The Hawks responded with a buzzer beating 3-pointer to lead by 12 at the end of three.

It was much of the same in the fourth as the Hawks led by as many as 16 to take home the hard fought victory.

Quinton led the Dinos with 17 points. Chase Morgan nailed four 3-pointers in the game.

Carbon (9-10, 2-3 Region 12) will travel to Richfield (9-9, 2-2 Region 12) on Wednesday. The Wildcats nipped the Dinos 52-51 in Price back on Jan. 18.
