Colorado Lookouts Come Out on Top at the Big Diggers Baseball Tournament

The Black Diamond Big Diggers tournament took place Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13 at the Babe Ruth Field and USU Eastern baseball fields. The tournament was hosted by the Helper Hitmen, coached by Tony Alford and Curtis Page. This event brought teams all the way from Colorado.

There were seven teams that competed in this two-day tournament, including the Helper Hitmen, CWL, Carbon Diamonds, Dragerton, Emery, Colorado Lookouts and Carbon Bears. Each team played four pool play games, then went into championship games Saturday Night.

The semifinals came down to four teams: the Helper Hitmen versus Carbon Diamonds and Emery versus Colorado Lookouts.

Helper Hitmen versus Carbon Diamonds top of the third had the Hitmen leading 3-0. With the Carbon Diamonds up to bat, Caden Steele hit a single getting Derick Robinson to second. The Diamonds came up short in the third inning.

In the top of the fourth, Chase Magann hit a two-run single to tie the game. A passed ball to home had the player on third make it to home, where he was pronounced out. During this play, a player was injured. Both teams came together to show excellent sportsmanship.

Chad Ryan got the loss on the mound for the Hitmen. Ty Anderson got the win on the mound for the Diamonds. The Carbon Diamonds won 5-2 and advanced to the championship game against Colorado Lookouts.

The championship game was played at the Babe Ruth field between the Carbon Diamonds and Colorado Lookouts. The top of the first had the Diamonds winning 2-0. In the bottom of the second Diamonds held the Lookouts. In the bottom of the third Lookouts scored four runs on the Diamonds.

With the Diamonds winning 5-4 in the top of the fourth, they looked to add more runs. The Diamonds  would only score three more runs in the game, while the Lookouts ran away with the 24-7 win.

Jared Diavas was charged with the loss on the mound.
