Steven Jeffery began climbing at age nine and quickly became one of the nation’s top competitive climbers. He pushed indoor and outdoor standards throughout the 90s both at home and abroad. Many of today’s top climbers have competed against Steven or have aspired to one day climb like him.
Steven has been a competitive climber for over 15 years, finishing in the top of all major competitions in the United States. His first major win was in Vancouver, Canada, in the Junior North American Championships at age 14. Since then, Steven has been found in the finals round of every competition he has entered, winning such landmark events as the 2002 PCA event in Telluride. Colorado. Not limited to competing in the United States, Steven placed fifth in the French Open at Antro Bloc in Paris, France. Steven has also harnessed the unrivaled experience of competition climbing to become the head setter for PCI’s Battle in the Bubble events. Steven has pushed the standards with first ascents and repeat classics around the globe. He is currently the head route setter at Momentum Climbing Gym in Salt Lake and travels the world to climbing gyms training and setting.
When he isn’t setting or climbing, Steven spends a lot of his free time outside. He enjoys hiking, exploring and especially fishing amongst many of the boulders he learned on and developed. Steven is in the process of finishing up a comprehensive Joe’s Valley bouldering guide and had a large role organizing the first ever Joe’s Valley Bouldering Festival fall 2015.
Steven will be presenting at the Legends & Lore Panel at the Museum of the San Rafael on Friday, October 7 at 4:30 p.m. along with Neal Peacock. They will tell the tale of Castle Country and its ascent to the climbing area it is today. This is a ticketed event but was a highlight of last year’s Fest and looks to be so again this year! It will be followed by the free mini rodeo/cowboy games at the blue sage indoor arena, then a ghost tour of CD/OV from the EHS Drama team and some live music!
In addition, Steven’s girlfriend Adriana Chimaras has played a huge role in bringing the Festival to Emery County and we want to give her a big thanks for her countless hours!
