Each year SITLA (Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration) sends trust lands funds to elementary schools all over the state. These funds come from income received on these school sections of public land. The management of these funds is site-based on students’ needs and determined by a committee of educators, parents and students. This year a contest was conducted to determine the best use of these monies.

Each school was invited to enter and Cottonwood was the deserving winner of the $1,000. The Colts were treated to two intensive reading assistants, Mrs. Childs and Mrs. Roberts, with wages paid by this program.

Mr. David Ure from the state SITLA office presented Principal Hughes a check for $1,000. Accompanying him were Paula Plant and Lisa Snyder also from the state office of trust lands. This award was applauded by the student body and faculty at an assembly Wednesday morning.
