Carbon County Commissioners started off the new year with a very short commission meeting on Wednesday.

The first item of the agenda was the review of the contract with Jones and DeMille Engineering concerning the Nine Mile Road project. It was tabled until next meeting.

County personnel director Rose Barnes took the opportunity to honor several county employees for their outstanding efforts. USU Extension Director Ellen Serfustini presented Kathy Thayn the employee of the month award for the work she does in the county extension office. Serfustini remarked that anyone that has contact with Thayn leaves as a friend and that she handles even the toughest situations with a smile.

The staff at the Carbon County Event Center were named as the department of the month for their excellent service. Event Center Director Rhonda Peterson emphasized the long hours and hard work the crew has put in over the last few years to make the event center a successful part of the county system.

Brenda Addley, Bernice Leroy and Denise Seevers were on hand to receive the department of the month award. Ron Lingal was not able to attend the meeting but is also a key member of the staff.

Commissioners finished up with an approval for AT&T to move ahead with maintenance and upgrade work to their Ford Ridge facility. An addendum was added to the original contract that states that the company will work closely with the county to assure none of the county infrastructure close by is damaged during the maintenance.
