May 27 marked the last day of the 2015-2016 school year for Carbon School District. While that in itself is a special occasion, a few lucky students at Creekview Elementary School were awarded twice.

Fifth grade students Carter Heugly, Cheyanne Slaughter, Makayla Scovill and Lizzy Blackburn met the challenge of reading a book series with at least three or more books in the series. Some of the series read were “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” “Percy Jackson” and “Among the Hidden.”

Once the students read the series, they were given a test that they had to pass with 80% or higher. Due to these students reaching the goal, Principal John Thomas saw a need to reward them. The reward came in the form of the students being allowed to shave the principal’s head.

The students, along with other fifth graders, gathered on the side of the school while the principal sat patiently and allowed the students to give him a new buzz-cut.
