The Rio Theatre in Helper boasted a variety of Democratic politicians and voters during the annual Carbon County Democratic Convention on Thursday evening.

The convention was the final stop on a Southeastern Utah tour for U.S. Senate Candidate Jenny Wilson. Earlier that day, Wilson also visited with Emery County residents in a meet and greet setting. Previous stops for the Senate hopeful included visits to Grand and San Juan counties.

Other candidates for local offices were also in attendance at the convention. Each took time to speak to those in attendance about their campaign and goals for the area.

During Wilson’s stop in Castle Dale, the candidate for U.S. Senate made the stop at Fatty’s restaurant. She met with Emery County Public Lands Chairman Rod Player and briefly with Commissioner Sitterud as well as leaders of the county Democratic party.

Wilson is serving her second term on the Salt Lake City Council. The daughter of former SLC Mayor Ted Wilson and is a fifth-generation Utahn, Wilson is trying to build a bench for future youth leadership in the Democratic party. She is calling for gun reform, citizenship for DACA recipients and aims to abolish the death penalty. Wilson addresses air quality concerns and hopes to protect the sovereignty of Utah’s Native American Tribes.
