The Carbon Dinos tallied eight runs in the first inning and never looked back in their 16-0 dismantling of the Emery Spartans Wednesday afternoon in Helper.

Seven of Carbon’s 13 total hits in the game went for extra bases. Collin Lewis and Anthony Jones each had two extra-base hits in the game, with Lewis going 2-2 with a double and a triple and Jones knocking in a game-high three RBIs on 2-3 from the plate, adding two doubles. Nate Olson and Ty Anderson also had two hits apiece in the game as well.

The Spartans, however, managed just one hit in the game.

After loading the bases in the bottom of the first, Carbon got its first run on a Zac Bradley fielder’s choice. Lewis then doubled to deep left field, scoring another two runs. Jones’ double scored another run moments later. Nate Olson knocked in another two runs on a single up the middle to make it 6-0. Ty Anderson, in his second at bat of the first inning, then tripled, scoring Olson. Cesar Laya tripled right after Anderson, scoring Anderson to make it 8-0 at the end of the first inning.

The Dinos added another run in the bottom of the second after Jones singled up the middle, scoring Lewis who legged out a triple earlier in the inning.

Multiple errors by the Spartans in the bottom of the fourth led to seven more runs for the Dinos, who also got hits from Cody Lowe, Daniel Vega, Jones and Olson in the inning.

Triton Abeyta then got Emery to go in order in the top of the fifth to end the game early.

Abeyta, who spelled starter Lowe after two innings of no-hit ball, went three inning, giving up just one hit in the game. Combined, the pitchers struck out four batters.

Carbon (8-5, 1-0 Region 14) will next play at home against Delta on Tuesday. Emery (9-5, 2-3 Region 15) will host San Juan on Friday.
