The Carbon Dinos hosted a region tournament at the Carbon County Club on Thursday morning, taking home the win and extending their first place lead in Region 12 play.

The Dinos finished 11 strokes ahead of Richfield with 308. Richfield took second with 319 followed by North Sanpete with 322. Canyon View came next with 322 while Juab rounded out the tournament with 376.

“They did well,” head coach Tom King commented. “I’m just really proud of the kids.”

Dino Kayden Alderson hit the low score of the tournament at 71. Ryker Smith notched 73 strokes for Carbon while Joey Penovich hit 78. Ryan Gagnon rounded out the top four scores with 86. Tyler Moynier and Dyson Blackburn also competed for the varsity team, hitting 87 and 89, respectively.

The JV team also did well for Carbon, finishing in first with 351. Wyatt Henrie and Zade Carillo led the junior squad, hitting 84 and 85, respectively.

While the Dinos sit at the top of Region 12 with a 37-stoke lead, King said that is not reason to let up or stop training for matches, including an upcoming contest at North Sanpete.

“They are just going to practice and win that one too,” King said. “The golf course over at North Sanpete can be tricky because it’s short.”

The team will travel to North Sanpete on Sept. 10.
