After dropping a heart-breaking opening game in the Pizza Hut Classic over the weekend to Bear River 2-1, the Carbon High baseball team won two straight games to get into the championship game against Wasatch on Saturday.В Unfortunately, though, the Dinos lost to the Wasps 8-5.

Carbon pitcher Nick Rukavina took the loss in the Dino’s first game at the Classic against Bear River on Friday. Carbon led 1-0 heading into the fourth but the Bears scored one run in the fourth and another in the sixth to eke out the win.

In game two on Friday, Carbon used a 12-run third inning catapulting the Dinos to a 13-2 win over Tooele in just five innings. Jaren McCourt, Julian Tamllos and Seth Tryon each had doubles in the blowout. Dakota Cisneros gave up just two runs on the mound for his second win on the season.

Down 8-7 going into the seventh inning against host Dixie High School on Saturday, the Dinos needed just a run, or maybe two, to send the game into extra innings or for the outright win. Tamllos knocked in a pair of CarbonВ base runners en route to a big six-run inning. Jake Nichols shut the door on any Dixie comeback and the Dinos escaped with a 13-8 win to get in to the championship game against Wasatch.

Down 8-1 after five innings, Carbon mounted a comeback in its final two plate appearances but could only manage to score four runs combined and lost to the Wasps, 8-5. Dino pitcher Mason Holmes picked up the loss on the mound.

The Dinos will take their 3-2 record to Salem on Tuesday for a non-conference tilt against 4A Salem Hills.
