The Carbon Dinos notched an impressive first place finish at Soldier Hollow Golf Course on Thursday, finishing 21 strokes ahead of the second place team.

Ryker Smith led the team with a 76, just one stroke behind the low scorer of the day from North Sanpete. Kaden Alderson hit 78 for Carbon while Ryan Gagon was just behind with 79. Joey Penovich finished with 81 strokes, rounding out the scoring for the team. Tyler Moynier and Dyson Blackburn also competed for the Dinos, finishing with 90 and 94, respectively.

“We did what we are supposed to do,” head coach Tom King explained. “I am proud of the whole team. They did well.”

Carbon ended the day with 314 as a team. North Sanpete came in a far away second place with 335, followed by Canyon View with 337. Richfield ended with 341 and Juab hit 422. All of the teams will once again take to Soldier Hollow at the end of the season.

“That is where they are going to be playing for state,” King explained. “To be competitive at state, they need to improve those scores and they still need to practice hard. There are still a lot of matches to be played.”

The Dinos will take to the Carbon Country Club next Thursday as they host their lone tournament of the season. Play will begin at 10:30 a.m.
