With the first half of Region 14 play in the books, both the Carbon boys’ and girls’ basketball teams find themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt.

The Lady Dinos have won their past two games in dominate fashion, outscoring their opponents 130-46.
The scoring onslaught began on Tuesday with a 72-19 win over American Leadership Academy. The Lady Dinos again found success, this time on Thursday at Delta, winning the game 58-27. Carbon beat Delta 58-23 back on Dec. 19.

Abbie Saccomanno led all scorers in the game with 18 points (also a career high), including three three-pointers. Jodi Noyes added 13 and Kelsey Sorenson added 12.

The boys traveled to ALA on Wednesday to finish off the first half of Region 14 play.

A slow third quarter in which they scored just five points, doomed the Dinos in the 68-64 loss. Carbon had the 35-26 lead going into the second half.

Jordan Vasquez eclipsed his career high in points, netting 28 in the loss. He drained four of Carbon’s six threes on the night. Derek Hillam added 21 points and six rebounds.

The Lady Dinos (12-5, 6-2 Region 14, 3rd in region) will host Juab (11-5, 6-1 Region 14) on Tuesday. The Wasps upended the Lady Dinos 52-46 on Dec. 12 to kick off region action.

Carbon boys (4-12, 3-3 Region 14, 4th in region) will host Delta (10-5, 4-2 Region 14) on Friday night. Delta beat Carbon 65-45 back on Dec. 20. The team will then travel to Juab (5-10, 2-4 Region 14) on Wednesday.
