Dinos Take Eastern Utah Track Championships

The Carbon Dinos took home top honors Friday afternoon in the Eastern Utah Farm Bureau Championships at Carbon High School, beating Union by over 20 points for the top spot.

The girls’ team finished in first, highlighted by a broken school record by Sarah Ohlwiler, while the boys finished in third. Emery snagged sixth and Pinnacle last of the 12 teams that participated.

Ohlwiler led the Dinos with first place finishes in the 100 meters and 100 hurdles. She then smashed Rachelle Jewkes’ 26-year-old long jump record with an 18’1.75” jump to win the event on Friday. Jewkes held the record since 1990 when she leaped 17’8”. Ohlwiler also finished fourth in the high jump.

Carbon’s boys’ and girls’ 4×100 teams placed first as did Gabe Van Dyke in the 300 hurdles, Jordyn Oman in the 200 meters, Peyton Fausett in the shot put and Sara Morley in discus.

Emery’s Patyn Jeffs secured the team’s only first place finish with a top mark in the high jump. The team had five second place finishes.

Pinnacle’s girls’ sprint medley team consisting of Misty Bingham, Kaeley Taylor, Alexandrea Sherman and Claudia Santisteve earned the school’s only points at the meet with an eighth place finish.

Derek Hillam, second in 400 meters. Madelyn Christensen, fourth in 300 hurdles. Kyle Quinton, fourth in 200 meters, fifth in long jump. Emma Haddock, fourth in 3200 meters. Girl’s and boys’ 4×400, both second. Morley, second in shot put. Morgan Hillam, fourth in shot put. Caitlyn Dimick, second in javelin, fifth in discus. Mikelle Monson, third in high jump, fourth in long jump. Lexi Monson, fourth in high jump.

Emery:

Girls’ sprint medley, third. Tiana Jensen, fourth in 100 hurles. Ashton Dieli, second in 110 hurdles, second in 300 hurdles. Bayler Griffin, second in 100 meters. Logan Cox, fifth in 100 meters, fifth in 400 meters. Erin Hurst, second in 1600 meters, second in 800 meters. Chase Christiansen, fourth in 3200 meters, fifth in 1600 meters. Morgan Hurdsman, fifth in 200 meters. Jaxon Winn, fifth in discus.

All three teams will take part in the BYU Invitational this weekend in Provo.
