Press Release

The Utah State Eastern baseball team snapped a nine-game losing streak Saturday after beating the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes 7-2.

On Friday, the Eagles lost 5-2 in game one and 12-4 in game two against CSN. The Eagles were shutout 5-0 in game three Saturday while leaving the bases loaded twice without scoring a run.

Game four was a different story for the Eagles as the pitching and batting improved to get the win.

Zac Lundell got the starting nod for the game but only pitched the first inning before exiting with an injury.

In the bottom of the first inning with two runners on, Cole Fossat hit a three-run home run to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead. Colton Hill also scored in the first inning off of a wild pitch.

Taking Lundell’s spot on the mound in the second inning was Lionel Colon, who would go on to pitch four solid innings for the Eagles by only giving up one run and six hits.

Fossat crossed home plate again in the bottom of the third inning off of a Chase Stratton sacrifice fly to extend the Eagles lead to 4-1.

During the bottom of the fifth with a man on first, Hill hit a two-run home run to give the Eagles a 7-1 lead. The homerun by Hill in game four was the second two-run home run by Hill of the series against CSN.

Hill and Fossat each came into the game to pitch for the Eagles in game four as well. Both pitched two innings and combined for allowing six hits and one run.

Lundell picked up the win against the Coyotes while CSN’s Isaiah Blaylock was the losing pitcher.

With the win, the Eagles now have a record of 6-22 in conference and 13-32 overall heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

The Eagles will host the College of Southern Idaho this Friday and Saturday at 12 p.m. for doubleheader action. Earlier this season, the Eagles lost the road series against CSI 3-1.
