EHS Speech and Debate Wins 27 Trophies

The Emery High School Speech and Debate team traveled to Westlake High school over the weekend to compete in the Kiefer’s Memorial Tournament.

After two days of competition against teams ranging from 1A-5A the team walked away with 27 trophies and awards. Daylon Walker and Randy Allen placed first in novice duo scenes. In open Student CongressВ Bryson Hales and Laurel Jefferies placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Mia Doria placed third overall, and seventh in speaker points in the Lincoln Douglas debate. Tyler Rubio placed first in radio DJ, an event that is only offered at this specific tournament.

EHS Speech and Debate Coach Neal Peacock said his team is on its way to achieving a goal set for the season and is happy with his team’s performance.

“We have made a goal to win 200 trophies by the end of the season and winning the 27 here at Kiefer’s put us at 167 or so,” he said. “We are doing well and are all very excited for region.”

The team will next travel to Richfield this weekend to compete.
