Emery Bumps Carbon Out of First Round of State Playoffs

The first round of the 3A state playoffs found cross-county rivals Carbon and Emery meeting in Price on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Spartans walked away victorious, taking the 4-1 win, to advance to the quarterfinals.

Emery notched a pair of goals in the first half while Carbon recorded one, giving the Lady Spartans the edge going into the break. The second half mirrored the first for the Spartans, who connected twice more with the net. Carbon was unable to rally, taking the loss.

Alexis Winter led the Spartans with two goals. Shelbee Murdoch and Sophie Huntington each added one apiece.

Carbon ends the season with a 8-7 record overall with a 7-5 mark in Region 14 play. Emery, now 9-4 overall, advances to the quarterfinals. The team will play the winner of the Judge Memorial/American Leadership Academy matchup on Wednesday afternoon. The quarterfinal game will take place on Saturday.
