The Emery Spartans rebounded from a disappointing 2014 season to make the playoffs this season in a stacked 3A North division. The Spartans traveled to Mt. Pleasant on Friday for an opening round playoff game against North Sanpete but were sent home with a 49-27 loss, ending their season.

Bryce Dugmore scored from eight yards out to give the Spartans a 7-0 lead on the game’s opening drive. The score would remain 7-0 until the Hawks tied things up early in the second. Emery responded, though, on a 65-yard TD reception by Ashton Dieli on the next drive to take a second, and ultimately its final, lead of the game.

Austin Allred scored in the third quarter on a pass from Zach Jorgensen from 17 yards out to get the score to six, 27-21. North Sanpete scored 22 unanswered points to push the score to 49-21 until the final moments of the game when TJ Lacock grabbed a 25-yard TD pass from Jorgensen to round out the scoring.

Emery finished the season winners of four games compared to six losses, including a 2-3 mark in 3A North action.
