The Emery Spartans kept within striking distance of the visiting Richfield Wildcats through the first half of play Friday night in Castle Dale. However, a 40-yard Hail Mary pass from Richfield’s Brandon Willardson to Payton Hafen at the end of the first half put the Wildcats on top for good. Richfield would go on to win the game 41-14.

Matt Mecham scored the game’s first touchdown on a one-yard run in the first quarter to put the Spartans up 6-0. Hafen then took the ensuing kickoff for Richfield 85 yards to gain the lead, 7-6. Ashton Dieli scored the other Emery touchdown on a 10-yard scamper in the second quarter.

Emery (0-3, 0-0 3A North) will begin 3A North action this Friday at Morgan (2-1, 0-0 3A North).
