The Emery High Spardettes won big when they competed Saturday at the Rocky Mountain Drill Invitational hosted at Corner Canyon High School in Draper.

The Spardettes, under the direction of head coach Lindsey Oman and assistant coaches Sami Johnson, Heidi Hurdsman and Haylie Cloward, prepared four routines for this competition.

The team competed against six other 2A teams and placed third in the dance category and first in military, kick, hip hop and the overall 2A sweepstakes. The Spardettes were also awarded the judges choice award for best dance technique.

Head coach Lindsey Oman said the best advice she gave her team Saturday was that no matter what the outcome was, they needed to win or lose with class.

“We faced some hard competition, but these girls are some of the most hard-working, talented and amazing girls I’ve ever worked with,” Oman said. “They definitely brought their A-game on Saturday and I couldn’t have been more proud. The expression on their faces when we won was just priceless.”

Oman said that there’s still a lot of work to do before the upcoming regional competition, but she is excited and feels the Spardettes have a good chance at taking the title of region champs.

“We just have to keep working hard and keep our confidence up and I feel like these girls can definitely do that,” Oman said.

In addition to their success as a team, two seniors, Brooklin Ewell and Aspen Bloomer, have been chosen to represent Emery High as members of the Utah All-State Drill Team. The dancers will be honored on their home floor as well as at the state competition

The Spardettes will strut their stuff in the regional competition on Jan. 27 in Richfield at the Sevier Valley Center at 6 p.m. and will wrap up their season at the state competition on Feb. 7 at UVU.
