The Sorensen sisters powered the Carbon Lady Dinos over the Emery Lady Spartans Wednesday afternoon in Castle Dale, 16-4, in five innings.
McKenna Sorenson picked up the win on the mound while Kelsey Sorensen had a game-high five RBIs. Kelsey had two singles and a double. She also scored a run. McKenna pitched three of the five innings for Carbon for the win. Taylor Passarella walked three times and knocked in a run on a triple.
Carbon opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-run spurt. The Lady Dinos scored another run in the second and four in the third for the 7-1 lead. After the Lady Spartans notched two runs in the bottom of the fourth, Carbon exploded for nine in the fifth and held Emery to one run in the bottom of the inning to invoke the mercy rule.
Carbon (1-0, 0-0 Region 12) will take on Pine View on Thursday in St. George and will then take part in the St. George tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Emery (0-1, 0-0 Region 15) will play at Summit Academy on Friday.
