Down 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Emery Spartans pushed across a single run but could get get no closer, losing the nailbiter 3-2 to North Sanpete on a cold and blustery day on Tuesday.

Emery loaded the bases three times in the game, including in the sixth inning when the Spartans scored their first run of the game on a walk. The other two times Emery loaded the bases, North Sanpete was able to retire the side on two groundouts to the pitcher.

Emery managed just four hits in the game, two off the bat of Easton Gordon who had a single and an inside the park home run. Gordon’s home run in the bottom of the seventh went over the head of the left fielder, and an errant throw as Gordon was trotting into third got away from the cut-off man allowed Gordon to score Emery’s second run of the game. Brax Jensen and Kyson Stilson had the other hits in the game, with Jensen’s going for extra bases with a double.

Cade Brazier tossed the complete game, allowing two earned runs while striking out four batters.

Emery (10-9, 3-6 Region 15) will travel to Mt. Pleasant on Friday for another matchup with the Hawks.
