The Emery High School football team extended its season by at least a week with an exciting win Thursday at Enterprise.
The win earned the Spartans a quarterfinal matchup at Manti on Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10.
The Spartans finished the regular season at 5-4 and moved to 6-4 after their first-round win. Manti enters the contest as 2A North Region Champions with an 8-1 record. The Templars’ only loss came during a Week Two visit from Juan Diego.
Manti beat Emery 28-0 earlier in the season.
Manti has outscored opponents 284 to 122 over nine games. Emery has outscored opponents 253 to 202.
Although the Templars hold the statistical and possibly mental edge, one-game playoffs can produce unexpected results. One or two lucky bounces of the ball could send the Spartans on to the semifinals.
