Fire Consumes Semi Truck, Closes I-70 Near Green River

A fire completely consumed a semi truck and closed eastbound traffic on I-70 near Green River on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce, dispatch first received a call at 12:48 p.m. stating that a semi truck caught fire at milepost 145, 20 miles west of Green River. The truck, which was carrying plastic pallets, was entirely consumed.

The driver, whose identity has not been released, made it out of the truck safely and no other injuries were reported as a result of the accident.

Authorities from the Utah Highway Patrol as well as local firefighters responded to the incident and closed all eastbound lanes for over one hour. At 2:03 p.m., one lane was opened for eastbound traffic.

The exact cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
