Food for Thought: Whole Grain Rolls at Carbon Schools

By Patti Rigby, Carbon School District Child Nutrition Director

Our hot rolls are a popular choice for school lunch. The 2010 Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act has a minimum whole grain requirement but the previous maximum limits have been lifted. We are now only restricted by a maximum calorie limit. Because of this change, students can choose to take two rolls at lunch and we are happy to report that many do!

Our whole grain rolls are a great source of fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Fiber is important to a child’s daily diet, helping them feel fuller and satisfied longer!
