Students throughout Carbon and Emery counties dressed in remembrance of Kaitlyn Hansen on Monday, wearing pink clothes to remember their friend and classmate. Hansen, 15, passed away on Saturday following a car accident.

Hansen was born in Payson and raised in Castle Dale until she was 14. There, she attended San Rafael Junior High and enjoyed being a cheerleader, science student of the year and participating in National Jr. Honor Society. She then moved to Price and attended Carbon High where she was part of the Dino Dynamics. On her last day, she enjoyed time with friends before she was involved in a fatal car accident.

“I am so fortunate today to be with my wonderful colleagues and the awesome students at Carbon High School,” Melissa Swenson, a guidance counselor at Carbon High, shared. “We have experienced a weekend where two separate accidents have left five students in the hospital and one young spirited girl was lost. The mood here is surreal and quiet, yet I cannot get over the unending love and support each and every student has displayed. It is difficult, and not without many tears, but they are mourning for Kaitlyn and praying for the quick recovery of the other five students.”

Three other students were involved in the car accident that claimed Kaitlyn’s life on Saturday. According to the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, the trio suffered multiple injuries and were transported to Castleview Hospital. Two other students were injured in a different incident.

Friends and family are sharing memories and photos of Hansen on social media with the hashtags #DanceOnKait and #BuckleUpForKaitlyn. Loved ones are encouraged to share their memories of Hansen via social media.
