Furry Friend Comes to Call at a Local Residence

Local resident Richard H. Morley has lived in his home near the college for over 80 years. For most of that time, he hasn’t had any news-worthy guests. Two years ago, Morley had his first encounter with an unusual furry friend: a beaver.

Morley and his family enjoyed having the furry guest until some agents came to call and informed them that the beaver had not only eaten their cherry tree, it had taken down a plum tree as well, both located in his backyard.

That beaver was taken care of. However, the adventures were not over. According to Morley, he recently went out into his yard to pick some peaches and was unable to locate his apple tree. Upon further inspection, he found the tree on the ground. Thinking it had become rotten, he looked closer and found that it had been chewed down.

Another beaver had taken residence in Morley’s backyard. The hope was that the creature could be relocated. However, it got caught in a snare and passed away. Morley is planning on having the beaver tanned. His fruit trees are safe for another day.
