GEAR UP Press Release

GEAR UP’s 2nd Annual Recognition Banquet and Signing Ceremony is to be held at USU Eastern on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 6 p.m. 8 p.m. in the CIB (Central Instructional Building).

As part of USU Eastern GEAR UP’s college access initiative, we will be recognizing GEAR UP graduating students, students of the month, student scholars and students of the year from Carbon, Lighthouse, Pinnacle, Emery and Green River high schools on May 18 for their accomplishments.

The goal of this night is to highlight all students who commit to going to college or will be involved in military. During this event, students will be recognized for choosing to enroll in community colleges, technical programs, private colleges, public universities, enlisting in the military and embarking on volunteer/service missions.

Linda Hapsmith, the Director of the USU Eastern GEAR UP program, expects more than 30 students to participate with the help of staff, counselors and administration from USU Eastern, Carbon County School District, Pinnacle School District, and Emery County School District.

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federal grant program that provides services and assistance for qualifying students in order to help them successfully graduate from high school and prepare for college.
